Jabru is one of those enigmatic artists that continues to maintain a constant and quality output within the UK’s underground music scene, whilst managing to remain off-radar to the wider dance community. When you look a little deeper at the artist’s output, you soon discover a musical journey gracing some of the most respected names the scene has to offer.

His productions have caught the ears of influential figures such Will Saul (!K7 DJ-Kicks), Huxley (Saints and Sonnets), Futureboogie (as Bruh Jackman alongside Hackman), Zed Bias and Joker; whilst his versatility on the decks has allowed him to DJ for heavyweights such as Hyperdub, Solid Steel and Rinse FM.

Jabru’s pedigree cannot be questioned, and Losing Suki are delighted to welcome him to their family of artists pushing the UK’s underground dance music sound to new frontiers.

True to form, Jabru steps up with a 3 track EP of dub-influenced rollers built equally for soundsystems and headphones.

The first track on the EP, ‘Voodoo Bey’, is a collaboration with Lee Waller AKA TK-421, and is a reverb soaked techno track with more than a nod to the lo-fi distortion and methodology of dub techno. Electric cowbells and crunchy percussion combine with spoken word samples and rich synth pads to create a pulsating, early-hours march across the dancefloor.

‘Catch Contact’ again borrows elements of Dub, utilising offbeat guitar stabs and melodica samples with rolling basslines more akin with the melodies and sampling of UKG rather than Dub Techno of the EP’s opener. Solid rhythms and catchy hooks make this one that won’t go quietly.

The affectionately titled ‘Bin Juice Rhythm’ sounds like UK Garage waking from brain surgery or El-B on hallucinogens. Pushing forwards through cloudy rhythms, lazy drums, dubbed out vocal samples and lo-fi growling bass lines; the track blurs the line between Dub and Garage uniquely; providing a new take on the two genres whilst adding another killer to Losing Suki’s varied and original catalogue.

Hazylujah AKA Massimiliano Vianello returns to Meda Fury, following up the Alejandro Jodorowsky inspired madness of his debut for the label , the ‘How Can You Hide From What Never Goes Away?’ EP, as well as releases for Delsin and well received tracks under his Pixel Music alias on DJ Qu’s Semesters and the Icon Of Desire label.

The ‘100% EP’ is perhaps the most singular release on Meda Fury to date – containing some of Vianello’s most extreme compositions yet.

“I think it’s the perfect balance of my house and techno sides, the grey zone in the middle, but ever with an adventurous and experimental attitude,” he explains. “It will be another starting point for my music, there’s a lot of research in sound design and harmonics, another step in what i want to do with house music, trying to take it to the next level”

From the very start, the distorted off-key stomp of ‘No’ is brutal and devastating. The bizarre spiraling funk of ‘Fourth Stone Bass’ follows, challenging and jarring. Side two kicks off with the sleazy EBM arpeggios of ‘In Sex’, pulsating and twisted with added heavy breathing. Closing with a return to his more melodic even Balearic dance of ‘100%’, it’s clear that Vianello is an unusual artist of wild imagination, exploring strange new places.

Following releases from Manni Dee and JoeFarr & Martyn Hare, Leyla Records presents four uncompromising new tracks from English duo Witch. Induction Hardened Bedways is a gritty and tough techno workout from two young talents that represent Leyla’s dedication to recapturing the authentic feeling of the music with a modern touch.

The A-side opens with ‘Zpkf’, an hypnotising production that feels smothered with sand paper, its slow build erupting into a cacophonous battle between rhythm and leads that leaves the listener stranded on the dancefloor, unable to do anything but move forward into the music. ‘Okhstk’ follows with a more traditional approach though the sound remains just as rugged with distortion obscuring the edges of the rhythm while melodic pressure mounts until it can seemingly no longer be contained but ultimately refuses to explode.

On the B-side ‘Flec’ starts with a steady, marching rhythm, the distorted kick drum somewhere in the vicinity of your hearing until all of a sudden it’s in front of you and you can’t escape its momentum. Once again Witch play with your senses, stacking rhythmic and melodic elements in a way that seems haphazard yet proves to be a clever trap that locks you into their own twisted sonic world. The EP closes with ‘Vosmr’, another slow-building, buzzing production with no distinctive edge that lures you in and swallows you whole.

Induction Hardened Bedways offers a fresh take on techno across its four tracks showing that the original spirit of the music is alive and well, and still capable of shocking and surprising.

The four-track Induction Hardened Bedwayse EP will be released on 12″ vinyl and digital on December 13.

We’re honored to announce an exquisite double LP release by obscure Japanese artist Tomo Akikawabaya. As long time admirers of Akikawabaya’s 1980s releases on his own label Castle Records, we had attempted to reach him for many years without any luck. Finally at some point in 2014, a conversation was struck and one thing lead to the next. It was through Nao Katafuchi that we finally made contact with the legend himself, and began speaking about the proposed release idea. It turned out that the admiration was mutual, which was surprising as we thought Akikawabaya had disappeared completely. After working through the track selection and artwork ideas, we came up with the release plan. We’re very excited to present this double LP entitled The Invitation of The Dead. The collection of songs include the entirety of both The Castle (1984) and Anju (1985) releases, all newly remastered. They sound fresher and stronger than ever before, exactly as the artist had intended them to sound when he recorded them 30 years ago. The songs that span this double LP are personal and unique; they are dark synthpop gems. The artist still remains a mystery, as does his relationship to the model Rena Anju featured on this and all but one of his album covers (Kojiki to Onna). The Invitation of The Dead double LP is a limited edition of 999 copies. The first 300 copies will be pressed on 160 gram black vinyl with white haze for the A/B sides and white vinyl with black haze for the C/D sides, and the remainder will be pressed on 160 gram black vinyl for the A/B sides and white vinyl for the C/D sides. The double LP will be presented in a gatefold sleeve designed by Peter Miles featuring cover photo by Alao Yokogi. The release will be available in late September.

Some fine soulful house grooves on this lil’ gem from Italian producer Mark Di Meo, brought to you by the mighty King Street Sounds.

In its Original form, Into The Night is reminiscent of Naked/Om-style deep, soulful house of the early 00s, with Sofia Rubina supplying a full vocal as well as some superb jazzy scat action. The accompanying Instrumental Mix shouldn’t need explaining, while the Rightside Remix is a perfectly acceptable variation on the them. It’s the Groove Delivers Dub that’s floating this reviewer’s boat more, though, which again is quite west coast-y but this time looking more to the more bumpin’ and funk-fuelled sound of labels like Transport and Salted for inspiration… while keeping the scat vox intact.

File under ‘classy house music for grown-ups’.

More soulfully inclined house vibes on this latest offering from Liverpool’s Something Different.

In its Orginal form, Soul Music has some dude talking extensively about, well, soul music, atop understated but still floor-friendly rolling beats and some sterling, equally subtle organ chords. The Alternative Mix takes us to a bouncier place and adds disco stabs n’ claps, applying the vocal a little more sparingly and letting the keys do more of the talking. Both are great… but then you see along comes a Terrence Parker remix and when, I ask you, did a Terrence Parker remix ever NOT absolutely kick it out of the park? Pretty much never, is the answer, and his bumpin’ bass-and-organs led rub is well up to his usual standard, nuff said!

Oh!, a chuggier groove with soulful male vocal contributions from Maximum Hush completes what is a strong package all round, but it’s the TP bomb that you need to pick this one up for.

Paul Najera makes a rare appearance without Jr Quijada in tow on this two-tracker for San Fran’s Late Night Jackin’ stable.

Earphunk is the instant attention-getter of the two, based as it is around an “aye-aye-ayah” vocal sample from the Stereo MCs, which squires a spoken, female “push me, make me, take me” vocal atop quite frenetic rolling beats and a hip-swayin’ b-line. But Hollyhood Swinging is well worth checking too with its rock-solid 4/4s, funk geetar and swirling brass fanfares.

Two very solid cuts that’ll move (proper) deep house floors without a doubt.

Anyway, two mixes of Yes Sr… to choose from. The original sits right on the deep/tech house cusp, with urgent 4/4s, a nice throbby bassline, bluesman-style spoken vocal ships and the shimmeriest hi-hats you ever did hear. Flip it over and you’ll find a remix from label regular Rick Sanders, who takes us down a darker, techier road on a rub that’s aimed fair and square at those 4am, eyes-down moments but keeps da funk intact.

Both are cool so it’s really a time/place thing as to which you’d play.

Loosing You sports a soulful male “ooh, baby, I’m losing you vocal” that it places atop driving, no-nonsense percussion and a rough-edged walking bassline, as well as energy-injecting crowd noise. Camilo Do Santos’s remix is tuffer and drummier and will work on floors that like it a little harder. The other original cut, Wait For It, is a rollicking little tech-houser topped with garage-y cut-up fem vox, while finally the Martinez & Quadelli remix of the same smooths out the rough edges and takes us back into deeper territory.
